Day 7: Crystal Lake, IL

It was windshield scraping weather in Crystal Lake, IL, a suburb of Chicago. This did not reduce our enjoyment of this part of our tour one bit. In fact, snow seems to make Valery feel at home.

We also visited a new favorite school of Valery's. The Judith Svalander School of Ballet focuses entirely on classical ballet. Most American studios split their time between ballet and jazz, hip hop or tap.
We are told that the students here take class four days a week. The students followed Valery's combinations easily and understood and incorporated corrections quickly. We also had a relatively rare opportunity to teach a pointe class.
We also would like to thank the parents for giving Valery a very thoughtful gift which we were able to enjoy on our first day off on Janury 15th. It is our last day off for some time.
In the evening, we had the opportunity to meet with some old friends. Larry Mein drove the coach on a ballet tour Valery and I did together a few years ago. It was great to see Larry and his wife Cindy again.
